About 80% of diesel engine operating costs are fuel costs. IPP’s want to check the specified Specific Fuel Oil Consumption (SFOC) during commissioning and the Fuel Consumption (FC) during operation. Harsh operating conditions like fluid pulsation, temperature differences and vibrations made this impossible in the past. KRAL offers a robust fuel consumption measurement system.

HOW TO REDUCE FUEL COSTS

The proven, robust KRAL FCM reduces costs and allows engine performance monitoring. The KRAL System recognizes flow and temperature excesses, fuel reverse flows and circulation rate. With the help of this data, maladjustments of the engines can be uncovered.

For more extensive analysis KRAL offers software for the data acquisition and evaluation on computer. In multiple engine installations, KRAL’s FCM indicates the fuel consumption of each individual engine on a central display. To keep the error propagation of the entire measurement system small, accurate single flow meters are essential.

KRAL Volumeters are insensitive against system vibrations and have an accuracy of ±0.1% over a wide turn-down ratio. As a consequence, a very highly system measurement accuracy can be achieved. KRAL’s decision to use spindles is due to their resistance to mechanical vibrations, without sacrificing accuracy. With excellent service life and long-term stability, this clearly shows that sturdiness and precision is not mutually exclusive.

To measure individual FC, the flowmeters need to be installed into the engine related ring line. A difference measurement between supply and return fuel flow gives the FC. To keep the error propagation of the entire measurement system small, accurate single flow meters are essential. KRAL volumeters have an accuracy of ±0,1% over a wide turn-down ratio. System measurement accuracy of 0,5 % can therefore be achieved.

A RELIABLE SYSTEM

More than 400 fuel consumption measurement systems sold to various industries prove the quality and benefit of the KRAL system. About 60% of the systems are used to measure heavy fuel oil, 30% are measuring diesel oil, and the remainder are operated in dual fuel mode. Besides marine industry, where the systems are installed on container and tanker vessels, fishing and tug boats, and inland ships, operators of stationary power plants, railway companies and diesel engine manufacturers also rely on the KRAL fuel consumption measurement system.
