A yacht named for the Greek sun god had better look the part. So it was that Helios, a 59m vessel built at Oceanco in 2001, departed from Knight & Carver YachtCenter early in 2008, having shed its European styling for the owners’ beach-oriented lifestyle.

Accomplished in six months, the refit included complete overhaul of the salon/cinema, master stateroom, five guest cabins, galley, lazarette and the 500ft² sun deck, and a complete exterior repaint. The salon floor is tiled in 39in x 39in white-glass Thassos.

“The tiles were installed with epoxy that dries soft and allows the stone to move with the boat,” says Curt Biller, HF Interior’s managing director.

The A/V system was completely rebuilt. The salon’s overhead is a sealed material that conceals 38 speakers.
On the flybridge, surround sound is pumped through 22 speakers; 14 are subwoofers built into the superstructure that switch,
on demand, from surround sound to stereo and generate 17,000W.
